Eight law firms were recognized in Minnesota by Chambers USA for Labor & Employment. The Real Estate Practice was nominated once again to Band #3, one of 15 Minnesota Law Firms recognized by Chambers. Read the excerpts below from the 2009 Chambers USA edition:

Labor & Employment
This group moves up a band this year due to sustained praise, a recent deepening of its talent pool and a consistently strong traditional labor practice, which is set to capitalize on the changing landscape of labor law. The team's traditional client base is private midmarket companies, particularly in the healthcare industry. Clients highlight the excellent value for money they receive. The firm has recently taken on six new attorneys, including notable new addition Penny Phillips, who returns to Felhaber after an in-house stint. She is well known for her advice and counsel on all areas of employment law, and also has experience in litigation. “Penny’s return is a huge plus for the firm,” sources report.   Paul Zech is a market leader in both labor and employment law, and is highly regarded for his balanced practice. “In addition to his expertise, Paul is personable, has a great sense of humor, and is a patient teacher in client conversations.” James Dawson “may know labor law better than anybody in the field,” and moves into the top band due to his well-regarded expertise in this area. Jan Halverson is also strong on traditional labor law, and his personable nature has drawn the admiration of peers. The firm has recently seen a surge in collective and class action work, and Sara McGrane is Felhaber’s go-to person in that area. She is "an expert litigator and a great client-service attorney - prompt and delightful to deal with.”

Real Estate
Historically known for its strength in the residential and housing arenas, this firm also represents its traditional base of developers in work with lenders. For example, the group is working with medical organizations around the state. Nevertheless, housing - particularly condominiums - is where the strength of this practice lies. Out of the 12-lawyer team, David Eide is the most well known. His focus lies in the development, financing and operation of complex mixed-use projects with a strong residential element, such as condominiums, mixed-use downtown blocks and master-planned communities. The bulk of Eide’s work is governed by two statutes which he had a primary hand in drafting: the Minnesota Common Interest Ownership Act and the Minnesota Uniform Condominium
