William Ecklund specializes in the areas of Employee Benefits Law and Risk Management, and represents many jointly administered multiemployer plans covering pension, health and welfare, apprenticeship and vacation and holiday funds. He has represented associations of employers and single employers in the formation of 501(c)(9) trusts for the self-funding of employee benefit programs, the formation of captive insurance companies and in handling other specialized risk management issues.
William has also formed and represents trade associations of employers, especially in the construction industry. He is the founder and first chair of the Employee Benefits Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association. He is a Fellow in the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel.
William formed the first collectively bargained workers compensation program in the State of Minnesota which is one of the most successful programs of its kind in the country. He is also a specialist in the area of withdrawal liability, especially in the construction industry.
William has served as an arbitrator under arbitration rules sponsored by the American Arbitration Association in withdrawal liability disputes between plans and withdrawing employers. He has also represented many employers in withdrawal liability disputes with pension plans and served as a professional trustee to multiemployer plans.
