Attorney Grant Collins’ insights were featured prominently in a recent MPLS Star Tribune article on employees who refuse to return to work because of fears over COVID-19.
Grant explained that for most healthy workers, the fear of getting sick does not justify their refusal to come back from furlough or layoff. As such, their employer could discipline them, or even terminate if they choose. If that happens, the employee likely suffers the additional penalty of losing their entitlement to unemployment compensation benefits.
