Honnen Weiss, In Memorium

Felhaber Larson mourns the passing at age 87 of Honnen S. Weiss, our former partner, mentor and friend.

Honnen practiced law in the Twin Cities for over 50 years and we were honored that he chose to spend the last 23 of those with us until his retirement in 2008.  He was a highly respected practitioner in the fields of estate and business planning, probate, and corporate law.

In addition to steadfast devotion to his clients, Honnen dedicated himself to serving his profession.  At various times he served as Chair of the Probate and Trust Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA), Chair of the MSBA Tax Section, member of the Executive Council of the Ramsey County Bar Association (RCBA), Panel Chair of the RCBA Fee Arbitration Committee, Chair of the RCBA Memorials Committee and member of the MSBA Ad Hoc Committee on Specialization.

Honnen was also exceedingly generous with his time and talents in our community.  For example, he served as President of Mount Zion Temple in St. Paul,  Board member and Secretary of Hillcrest Country Club, member of the Allocations Panel for the United Way of St. Paul, Vice President of the Jewish Community Center of St. Paul and President, of the Jewish Vocational Service.

We send our heartfelt condolences to Honnen’s loving wife, Barbara, his daughter, Iylene Raihill and his son, Mike (Dalia).

Funeral service are planned for Tuesday, July 18, at 11:00 am at Mount Zion Temple, 1300 Summit Avenue, St. Paul. SHVA will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 pm in the community room at 555 Oak Ridge Place, Hopkins.   In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the giver’s favorite charity.
